McClelland Park

Erie, Pennsylvania
Client: City of Erie, Pennsylvania

Overview

Oasis Design Group created a master plan for McClelland Park, the largest undeveloped city-owned open space park in the city of Erie. The 58-acre site is predominately wooded with identified areas of wetlands and a stream traversing north-south, which eventually enters Lake Erie.

Firm Accomplishments

  • Worked closely with the community and neighborhood groups, which wanted a park with passive recreational amenities and to preserve the natural areas, and the city to develop a park master plan, which was funded in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
  • Planned picnic groves with pavilions at key vantage points, walking trails that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a dog park, a children’s adventure play area, wetland boardwalk crossings with associated natural area interpretation stations, and a proposed environmental education center with native plant demonstration areas.
  • Developed a recommended phasing plan so that the park could be constructed in 5 phases as various funding sources become available.
